I came here once with my brother and his friend. It was good and the service was great. It just wasn't a showstopper like Koo. Maybe it was the atmosphere that did it, or I am just partial to others. My place was closed. If that happens to you then I would definitely recommend going to Ebisu.

steve and suzuki (sushi guys) deliver some killer fish here! when looking for a good sushi bar, you have to have volume. this place rocks all night long, so they are turning over fish at a really good clip. that also means that they are ordering fish more often. you get the idea. Ebisu is good and has been good for a very long time.

My all-time favorite spot for sushi, and I always ask to have my order prepared by master sushi chef Suzuki. Standbys: 49er roll, rainbow roll, seafood salad, dragon roll, spider handroll, hamachi and hamachi toro nigiri. You can also sit at the sushi bar and sample the day's specials or ask Suzuki to whip up something special just for you with whatever fish and/or special ingredients you like.

Went last night for an early dinner at 5:30. Tables were already starting to go so we sat at the sushi bar. The chefs were all very enthusiastic about their favourite cuts, which were as tasty as advertised. Service for appetizers/entrees was haleable via a well-timed "sumimasen" and the Vanilla Pot de Creme dessert was absolutely astounding. Will definitely be back, although at the same early hour (when we left at 7:00 there was a considerable wait, which is a pity as that's my favourite dining hour). The chefs were entertaining to listen to as they bantered with each other and discussed their backgrounds.

Some regard Ebisu as "the best sushi in SF", yet I'm not convinced they're deserving of such a grand title. Why you ask? Well, I doubt that the best sushi house in SF would allow several short black hairs to go out on their spider rolls. 'nuff said.

FABULOUS fish, service and presentation. Ebisu is the standard by which all other sushi bars are judged and one I rate above even Sushi Tomi because of the friendly chefs who joke and serve directly from the bar. (Sushi Tomi chefs are too busy to chit-chat at lunch). Suzuki is a grand master and the remodeled interior is great - though I hardly notice when the fish is sooooo good. Don't blame them if it takes awhile to get a table. I'd do a detailed review of all their fish but after 15+ years being blown away by the quality what can I say? Its all the highest quality and fabulous. There's no chance of getting old fish here.

The majority of my friends are inner sunset natives, and would probably scold me for writing this review... I used to enjoy dropping by Ebisu here and there with my neighborhood buddies, but after the remodeling, the place has gotten quite pretentious. Prices raised, over-hyped, super long wait in crammed area, ok service. The fish there I admit is fresh, but for the price and the wait nowadays. I don't even bother. I'd rather go to Shimo's either on Taravel or Clement and save myself a little money and time for if not equally fresh fish, even better!

    Uninformed service. Careless with overcharging.

The line here is insane. I waited for about 15 minutes just for takeout but it was totally worth it. The swamp thing roll has seaweed on top and it's really delicious. I would definitely go back if I had time to wait.

Be prepared to wait a long time, but well worth it. In my very humble opinion the best sushi in San Fran. Well worth the $10 taxi ride. If you want trendy and loud, go to that hell-hole on Lombard or Ozumo, but if you want great sushi at a reasonable price - this is the place. Afterward a stop at Yancy's around the corner for a quick game of darts and a beer is customary for us, though it's not quite as fun anymore.

One of the best yellowtail (Hamachi Sashimi's) I ever tasted. Very traditional japanese hole if the wall local type of place with great special of the days such as Kobe Beef Sushi. Fresh Sushi. If you just wanted japanese food with good sushi and without the flair, I highly recommend this place. Great as a casual date place.

Ebisu should be the picture in the dictionary when you look up sushi. It is the freshest sushi in the Bay Area by far. I recommend the special caterpillar (unagi and avocado) and 49er (salmon and lemon) rolls, and the negihama (hamachi) is always outstanding, as is the aji (spanish mackerel). Give yourself a treat and visit this outstanding restaurant.

The best experience is to sit at the sushi bar and talk to the chefs. Ask what's fresh and you can't go wrong. Also, they have a frequent diner program which seems to be invite-only, as the sushi chef offered it to me when he recognized me after several visits.

i haven't been there in over a year but when i lived in the sunset i would frequent this place. very very good sushi back then. any roll i tried i liked a lot and the yellowtail was out of this world. the wait for this place is ridiculous though!

After being told that the wait for Koo on a Friday night (sans reservation) was going to be about an hour, my date and I headed over to Ebisu. After about a 20 minute wait, we finally got a table. He's a rolls person, and I'm a sashimi person, so we ordered some of each, and shared some hot sake. My summary? Meh. Here's the deal - this place is LOUD. A little too frenetic for my tastes. And the sushi took a while to come out. The sushi was passable, and the service was ok, but next time we're planning on having sushi in the area, we are making RESERVATIONS at Koo and not going to settle for anything less.

I will gladly drive over the GG bridge to eat here. it is only a 15 minute drive from Sausalito, and well worth it. The fish is extremely fresh and wonderful. The decor, warm and inviting. I sat at the sushi bar, and Ricky the sushi chef was informative, nice, and made me feel comfortable sitting there. I usually opt for a table since I am a bit shy, but as soon I was walked in, I felt it was not intimidating so sat at the bar. All the fish I ate was outstanding and at a very reasonable price. It has Sushi Ran beat hands down for quality, service and price. On Tuesdays during lunch, they have a $30.00 Omakase tasting menu. Great deal! I will report back when I go!

More like 3.5 stars but definitely a good neighborhood joint. Some of the sushi was fantastic, others just ok. Service is good. Stick with the sushi - the izakaya type dishes left a lot to be desired.
